As you study Sociology, you will come across a number of key terms; you will need to know how to spell the terms and how to define them. This is especially true of the terms listed at the end of each module section of the syllabus (see under Course Info). I would like you to build up your own 'Sociology Dictionary' in a note book or on revision cards. This will mean you have a resource where you can test yourself or friends and family (who may know nothing about Sociology) can test you. I will check your materials every now and again to make sure you are not learning incorrect spellings or definitions. I will also explain terms in lessons. However, if you are away and miss this, you can use the following sites (but please try to put the definition in your own terms so that we can be sure you understand):
Range of general terms: https://quizlet.com/138861119/ocr-a-level-sociology-key-terms-flash-cards/
If you were to make your own flash cards like this, that might really work for you. You could then get a family member or friend to test you using the flash cards (but you could also test yourself).
Family and Methods: https://revisesociology.com/tag/key-terms/
The key terms in the following site are useful, but the definitions may need simplifying. For example, the definition of Socialization I have asked you to learn is 'the process of learning culture' The definitions here is longer than this. Maybe try simplifying them to make your own list or flashcards: https://app.memrise.com/course/928320/aqa-sociology-key-terms/1/
When you get to the point of covering perspectives the following offers a simple but useful starting point:
https://freedomtoteach.collins.co.uk/key-terms-for-sociology/
You might also find the Penguin Dictionary, below, useful but it is designed for more advanced Sociologists and needs careful scrolling to find the word you want (or go to http://text-translator.com/wp-content/filesfa/Dic-of-Sociology.pdf). You may be interested to know that one of the authors, Stephen Hill, was one of my tutors at LSE. Once you find the term, put the definition in your own words to ensure that you feel you understand it. Check it with JBA later if you want to be more confident.
